Total surrender, total dependence, and total devotion to God were all present in the Old Testament sacrificial system. But when it became vain repetition, the surrender, dependence, and devotion were no longer there. What does it mean to walk humbly with your God?

Micah is pointing out the present struggle of the Israelites but he also points out a future hope. The same Hope that Micah was pointing the Israelites to is the same Hope that we have today.

In Micah chapter 3 we see there are two responses to God’s grace. One is right and one is wrong. We can abuse it, and see it as a license to sin or we can use it, and see it as a lens to examine our hearts.

To truly understand Micah, you have to go back, back to the beginning, back to God’s promise to Abram. God promised Abram that all the world would be blessed through him. Abram became a family, the family became a people, the people became a Kingdom and the Kingdom became a nation. A thousand years after God’s promise, things are a mess and that’s when God sends Micah.
